World Cup #4, Mont St Anne, Canada | Mt. Sainte Anne, PQ- Last weekend marked the return to the site of the 2010 Mountain Bike World Championships and the home of the longest running event on the UCI World Cup. This week’s stop round 4 of the UCI World Cup at Mt. Sainte Anne, Quebec, Devinci Global Racing riders Steve Smith and George Brannigan finished with solid results finishing in 7th and 25th.

Due to Mt. Sainte Anne being a triple event the qualifying was held on the Friday instead of the traditional Saturday. With the race two days after qualifying Steve and George opted for a conservative day with plenty of practice following qualifying. George ended his day with a 25th finish in qualifying and Steve finished in 8th.

The majority of practice and qualifying was filled with mud and rain, but late Saturday the sun began to dry the track out and the dirt turned to hero dirt for Sunday’s main event. The biggest variable for the weekend was that thundershowers were forecasted for Sunday afternoon during the race. As the field set off the sky looked as though it would unleash and give a massive advantage to early riders. The first podium worthy time was set by Troy Bronson, the young Australian. It held until the top 10 qualifiers started to arrive. After the dust had settled George finished 25th and Steve 7th.

“The track was perfect on race day, the dirt was amazing. I am pleased with my result, I didn’t take too many risks and had a solid run and it was good to move up in the standings after a rough start to the season.” – George Brannigan

With these results Steve remains 5th in the overall World Cup standings while George clocked his best result of the season.

“The week was looking really sketchy with the weather, I was happy that the weather held for race day and that everyone had a level playing field. I am not happy with how I rode this week. I just wasn’t nearly explosive enough. I will be ready to go next week in Windham.”- Steve Smith

“This week’s results were good. It was nice to see George building some confidence after a bit of a slow start to the season, I know that Steve is not thrilled on how he rode this week, but if that means a 7th place finish, that is still really solid.”- Gabe Fox, Marketing Manager Cycles Devinci
