The US Open is one of my favorite courses out there. I have been coming to this race for 5 years and I always look forward to coming back.

Steve destroys US Open Track en route to a 2nd Place finish | Vernon NJ- Devinci Global Racing rider Steve Smith has battled his way to a second place finish and returned to the Podium at the US Open of Mountain Biking.

The US Open is held traditionally on the Memorial Day long weekend which unofficially marks the start of summer in the US. Temperatures hovered above 30 degrees as the event kicked off, but heavy thunderstorms were forecasted for Sunday race day.

“The US Open is one of my favorite courses out there. I have been coming to this race for 5 years and I always look forward to coming back. I came into Sunday knowing I could go at least 5 seconds faster than my qualifier, I just needed to have a clean run”- Steve Smith

As Sunday neared the big question was if the forecasted thunderstorms would hold off. As the race began to unfold, the hot seat changed hands a few times throughout the day. Steve took control of the hot seat with 5 riders remaining by a margin of five and a half seconds. He watched as 3 of the final 5 riders came down with times over 2 seconds slower than his, until Aaron Gwinn came across the line marking the first time an American has won the US Open

“This is a great result for Steve heading into back-to-back events in Europe. Steve is riding fast and I look forward to see what this brings for the European rounds over the next few weeks.” – Gabe Fox Sales and Marketing Manager Devinci
