Smith salvages run despite crash to finish in Top Ten at UCI World Cup #2 | Fort William, Scotland - Devinci Global Racing’s Steve Smith finishes 10th in UCI World Cup #2 on the 10th anniversary of one of the longest running World Cup events on the circuit.

Smith’s Saturday qualifier solidified that he would be a podium threat on Sunday. After the full field had made its way down the course for qualifying, the field was cut from175 riders down to 80. Steve sat in a solid 7th place in front of a massive turn out of fans for qualifying something, which is unique to Fort William.

The track is an interesting one, it is gravel and very unpredictable when dry. The lower half once you get into the woods is amazing and I looked forward to riding it all week.- Steve Smith

As day broke on Sunday and the hundreds of busloads of cycling fans arrived at the venue it became apparent that the weather would hold for the finals. Steve’s former teammate Brook Macdonald posted the day’s first podium threatening time while starting from 48th position. His time would hold until the top 10 qualifying riders would start to arrive.

During Steve’s run his rear wheel slid out causing him to hit the ground and destroying his chances of a podium finish as he was forced to ride the majority of the course with a cut knee and a knee pad around his ankle.

I felt good all week and was gunning for a podium finish, but didn’t manage to keep it together, but I am happy with the top 10 finish- Steve Smith

I am really happy with Stevie’s determination this weekend, despite his crash he put the hammer down and salvaged an impressive top 10. – Gabe Fox Sales and Marketing Manager Devinci
