8 seconds short to beat the record | As well as winning his first race in two years at the Mardis cyclistes de Lachine, Amos-native Pierrick Naud (Ekoï-Gaspésien), rode to victory and was just short of a record win during the ninth stage of the race Tuesday evening.

Pierrick Naud completed the 50 km course (31 1.63 km laps) in an impressive 59 minutes (an average speed of 50.8 km/h), the second best time in the 35-year history of the Mardis cyclistes de Lachine bike race.

“I am very happy. It feels good to win, but it is a bit disappointing to be eight seconds short of the record, which I think I could have beaten.” Naud stated after the race.

The record set by Guillaume Boivin in 2009 still stands; he finished the race in just 58 minutes and 52 seconds. Following the latest race, the $14 500 prize that will go to the next record breaker has increased to $15 000 for the last race of the season that will take place next Monday.

Deshaies Still in Second

Naud’s teammate Jean-Samuel Deshaies kept his second-place red jersey in the general classification, coming in seventh with 66 points, for a total of 700 points. He is behind Jean-François Laroche, who has the yellow jersey and 817 points. The final results will come in at the tenth and final stage next Tuesday. Jordan Brochu earned five points for a total of 235 points and is in 11th place. Six riders from the Iamgold team took part in the latest stage.
